Winemakers Notes
Tendu 2019 red wine
Dunnigan Hills AVA
Bottled in 750mls. Cork-fnished.
44 Barbera, 26 Aglianico, 24 Montepulciano, and 6 mixed Rhne varieties
The Barbera was harvested on August 21st and the remaining varieties over two weeks from September 6-26, 2019
The much needed rain in the winter and spring of 2019 replenished the soil and the vines, erasing the vine stress that had built up over the past 6-8 years, and leading bright and cheerful wines. The wines have less tannin and concentration than weve seen since before the drought, instead delivering high-toned fruit and delicate mouthfeel. All vineyard sources were farmed organically, and the growers decided to try it on more of their acreage than just what was devoted to Tendu, so we are making a small difference in California agriculture.
The 2019 red wine is a mix of Barbera, Aglianico, Montepulciano, Cinsault, and Carignane from two sites, both with weathered, pink gravelly alluvium, very low fertility soils (Corning Series). The bulk of the Barbera comes from the Muller Vineyard while the rest of the varieties come from the Windmill Vineyard, (the Windmill is now certified organic (CCOF)). The vineyards are located outside of Woodland (Yolo County; Dunnigan Hills AVA). They are of moderate elevation and it gets quite warm during the day.
Fermented with native yeasts at cool temperatures in stainless steel then aged in neutral barrels for five months with no sulfur added. Unfltered/unfned.
