Raspberry and dark cherry lead into woodsy aromas of mushroom, violet and thyme. Full and very fruit-forward, the wine finishes long with cardamom and warm baking spices. To make Elk Cove Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, fruit from each vineyard block is fermented separately in small, temperature controlled steel tanks, hand punched down twice daily, and barreled in french oak barrels. After 10 months of aging in 20% new oak, the wine Elk Cove chooses for the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is carefully blended to produce the most approachable, well-balanced Pinot Noir they make.
COMMENTARY: The 2017 Elk Cove Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is lovely, upfront, ready-to-enjoy wine. TASTING NOTES: This is a beautiful wine with a streak of earth and savory spices. Pair it with grilled salmon. (Tasted: March 4, 2020, San Francisco, CA) -Wilfred Wong of Wine.com 90pts
A multi-faceted nose of cherry, tobacco, violets, and pastry introduces a wine with great purity of fruit. Its fresh, rounded notes of plums, currants, and fresh candied cherries give way to finely balanced tannins in this elegant, bright wine.
This has a vibrant and lively nose with upbeat, red-cherry and berry aromas that are laced with attractive perfume. The palate has a smooth, fresh and juicy array of vibrant red-cherry flavor and holds the finish in attractive, fleshy mode.
Here is a textbook example of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Sturdy and dark-fruited, it's a reasonably substantial wine, well balanced and showing light barrel influences of toast, coffee and smoke. Nothing too fancy, but varietally true.
